Setting the standards
Gratton Coulee engines are quality tested and inspected for maximum performance so you can buy with confidence.
Our engines are removed from the unit as part of the our procedure for preparing a unit for salvage. Engines in running units also are dynamometer tested before they are removed. Those that are not in running units are removed, put on an engine stand, and thoroughly inspected to determine whether the engine meets our quality standards for re-sale or if it is parted down into its components. Once the decision has been made to make the engine available for re-sale by one of our licensed mechanics, we then go ahead and install fresh main and connecting rod bearings, seals, and where applicable, rod bolts. In most cases valve settings are checked and re-set where necessary.
Does dyno testing tell all?
Absolutely not. Dyno testing does help establish the general overall health of the engine and its systems, but does not give any indication of the condition of all internal components - especially bearings. The condition of the main and rod bearings are absolutely essential in maintaining a healthy oil pressure within the engine. This is why we prefer to replace bearings and dyno test (where possible) when engines come in to our shop. We like to sell with confidence just as you expect to buy with confidence.
